
The School of Teaching and Learning (TCH) provides professional opportunities to students who are committed to becoming outstanding educators. TCH offers multiple degree programs at the undergraduate level which meet all Illinois State Board of Education certification guidelines including: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and Middle School Education. A Bilingual endorsement is also offered. In addition, the department provides pedagogical training for Secondary School majors receiving degrees from other departments throughout the University.
At the graduate level, the department offers master's degrees in Reading and Curriculum and Instruction. A Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree with a Curriculum and Instruction emphasis is also offered.
The programs in the School of Teaching and Learning are nationally recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Association of Childhood International (ACEI), and the National Middle School Association (NMSA). All programs meet and exceed rigorous standards for accreditation by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Illinois State Board of Education, while at the same time substantively integrating the values and commitments set forth in the Realizing the Democratic Ideal, the conceptual framework for all teacher education programs at Illinois State University.
